Who We Are......
The Farm
Coyote Ridge is a small farm located in the Appalachian foothills a few miles south of Chillicothe, Ohio that specializes in vegetable production. Situated on the larger family-owned farm, the land has been in our family for well over 100 years. It is 96 acres of mostly mixed hardwood with approximately 17 acres of open tillable land, of which a little less than 1 acre of that is in vegetable production. As we grow, our production and selection will grow. We believe that food should be raised in a manner that is both safe and nutritious for you while not being a detriment to the land from which it comes. Because of this belief, our growing methods resemble that of organic practices in that we do not use any synthetic chemical pesticides and fertilizers. We believe that the land we live on and live off of should be revered and cared for in a truly sustainable manner. We work to improve ours soils every year by implementing practices that feed the soil, which, in turn, feeds us and you...
The Farmers
Ryan Slaughter: I graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelors of Science of Agriculture with a major in Horticulture Crop Science. For my day job, I work for The Ohio State University South Centers in Piketon, Ohio. There, I work as a Horticulture Research Assistant, where I currently manage a wine grape vineyard and several different Super Berry plots that include blueberries, Goji berries, elderberries and more. In the evenings and weekends, I manage our small and growing business Coyote Ridge Farm & Gardens. My passion for this kind of work came from my father, who was a grain and cattle farmer for much of my life and before, and it was made possible by my grandfather, who left me land to put my dreams to dirt.
Shasta Slaughter: I graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelors of Science of Agriculture with a major in Animal Science. I work at Animal Care Clinic, a local veterinarian clinic in Chillicothe, Ohio, as a Veterinarian Assistant. My passion for animals, large and small, has been with me for many, many years. Since the age of 8, I was an avid 4-H-er. Then I received my first horse, Sparky, who I still have and ride today. My passion for animals are expressed through my work and our farm, where we have chickens for egg production and a few goats.
